Kids News Spelling Bee 2020



PRIME MINISTER’S SPELLING BEE ENTRIES NOW OPEN

The 2020 Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee is now open and accepting entries and our School has been registered.


If you want your child to take part in the Spelling Bee you must return the Consent Form to 
the Bayview Office bayviewoffice@stlukes.nsw.edu.au who will forward the form onto Mrs Duffy.

The school round of the competition will be held from March 16 to 26.
There are three reading levels for years 3-4 (green category), years 5-6 (orange category) and years 7-8 (red category).
Competition Rounds
The Competition will be conducted over a series of rounds, each a Competition Round, as set out below. There will be separate Competition Rounds conducted (but all at the same times as shown below) for each stage level (as described below being green, orange and red categories): 

Registration Period
Open: 11am AEDT Wednesday 26th February, 2020
Close: Midnight AEDT Sunday 15th March 2020

School Competition Round 
Open – 9am AEDT Monday 16th March 2020
Close – 3pm AEDT Thursday 26th March 2020

State and Territory Finals Competition Round  
Open – 9am AEST Wednesday 29th April 2020
Close – 6pm AEST Wednesday 29th April 2020

National Finals Competition Round 
Open – 9am AEST Wednesday 6th May 2020
Close – 1.30pm AEST  Wednesday  6th May 2020.
  1. All entrants must enter as individuals.
  2. No payment to the Promoter is required to enter the Competition  
  3. Entrants will only be able to participate in the Competition if the teacher or registered home-school parent confirms to the Promoter that they have received a signed consent form the parent/legal guardian of the entrant.  
  4. The entrant must not have reached the age of 15 on or before February 1, 2020.
  5. Individual entrants must be entered into one of the following three categories:
    Green: For Years 3-4
    Orange: For Years 5-6
    Red: For Years 7-8
  6. Entrants are eligible to be entered into the category which matches their actual grade or the category ABOVE their actual grade (ie a Grade 4 student can enter the Orange category for Years 5-6) but entrants cannot be entered into categories BELOW their actual grade.
